Straw Man

Do you remember how when Pinochet was detained by us there was an objection that the then Home Secretary, Jack Straw, was compromised by a freebie trip he took to Chile when a young man?

It was laughed off as nonsense that a holiday could affect such a decision. Well it seems that the trip was a bit more than a holiday. In other words they were lying.

On another Pinochet front, has it occured to anyone how this may have affected the Iraqi situation. If Saddam believed that he would never be punished, rather than being given a free pass for ten years, do you think it would be more or less likely that he would be thinking of going into exile? It's particularly ironic that many of those celebrating Pinochet's detention all those years ago are the same people who are desperately marching against the war.

What goes around.
